Steve’s Week in Policy: March 24, 2016

Steve Higham is a policy analyst with Mitacs. On the blog, he’ll frequently share links to interesting innovation policy-related articles, videos, podcasts, or websites. 

Here is your weekly handful of links that have either caught my attention or were shared by my Mitacs colleagues:

• Canada isn’t the only country looking for new ways to promote innovation and grow its economy. The Globe and Mail reports that China wants to shift its economy to a more innovative model.
   
• Is failure a good thing in the world of entrepreneurs? How do you “fail successfully”? Isn’t that something a loser would say? Anyway, the New York Times ran an op-ed on the role of failure on the path towards innovation.
   
• In Canada, a new survey suggests that students are confident in their future, but unsure about the transition process from the university to the workplace.
   
• The Institute for Research on Public Policy released a roundtable report on how governments can better incorporate scientific research and technology into policymaking processes. Mitacs’ Val Walker and Brennan Gillis were among the roundtable participants, so you know it will have some good insights.
