CORS recognizes Mitacs contribution to operational research in Canada

The Canadian Operational Research Society has awarded the 2013 Omond Solandt Award for excellence in operational research to Mitacs.

The Omond Solandt Award is endowed to an organization, private or governmental, that has made an outstanding contribution to operational research (OR) in Canada. The award was named after Dr. Omond Solandt for his commitment and contribution as the founder and chairman of Canada’s Defense Research Board and dates back to 1978.

Ms. Olga Stachova, Chief Operating Officer, received the award on behalf of Mitacs, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to operational research in Canada.

Since 1999, Mitacs has worked closely with OR researchers from universities across Canada. When the Mitacs-Accelerate graduate research internship program was piloted in 2004, the OR community was the first to take part. Most notably, the Centre for Operations Excellence at UBC has been encouraging its graduate students to undertake applied research internships through Mitacs-Accelerate for more than seven years.
