Montréal, QC — Mitacs is pleased to announce Professor Dominique Bérubé as the new Chair of its Full Partner Advisory Committee (FPAC) for an initial two-year term. A recognized pillar in the research and innovation community, she will counsel the organization’s executive leadership and Board of Directors on how to best leverage FPAC’s nationwide expertise to inform strategic decisions.
As Vice-President, Research and Innovation, and Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at McGill University since 2024, Prof. Bérubé brings more than 20 years of intersectoral expertise in the academic, research, and innovation ecosystem. Her experience prior to McGill includes serving as Vice-President of Research and Graduate Studies at Concordia University and Vice-President of Research at the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
Prof. Bérubé’s track record in fostering interdisciplinarity, eliminating systemic barriers to research funding, and championing high-impact research run parallel to Mitacs’s goals and impact over the past 25 years.
Mitacs would like to thank the outgoing FPAC Chair, Dr. Steven N. Liss, for his service from 2018 to 2024. As Toronto Metropolitan University’s Vice-President, Research and Innovation, Dr. Liss will continue providing important contributions to the Mitacs community as a continuing member of the committee.
Composed of Mitacs’s 30 full partner universities, which represent Canada’s leading research institutions, FPAC forms a core part of the organization’s governance model. They act as a key consultancy body for Mitacs’s executive leadership and will play a crucial role over the next year in providing input for a new strategic plan, expected to be released in 2026.
Mitacs currently has agreements with 86 universities and 112 colleges, CEGEPs, polytechnics, and institutes across the country. Since 2018, the organization has invested over $1.2 billion in collaborative research, supporting more than 100,000 internships across 36,000 projects for post-secondary students.
“Mitacs is thrilled to count on the leadership of Professor Dominique Bérubé as Chair of the Full Partner Advisory Committee. With a wealth of experience in driving strategy, leading research, and supporting students, Prof. Bérubé will play a key role in ensuring that Mitacs academic partners, through FPAC, can help to inform the development of Mitacs’s new strategic plan and continue delivering our unique business-driven research partnerships supported by post-secondary talent.”
