Globalink students making notes of their visit!

Cascades, a leader in the pulp and paper industry (packaging, tissue and recovery), leaves a strong impression on international students.

On August 1st, 13 students from India, China, Brazil and Mexico – in Québec through the Mitacs Globalink program – got a greater understanding of the challenges and research and developments required for the production of paper.

The students had the chance to visit one of Cascades‘ plants in Saint-Jérôme, under the supervision of Roger Gaudreault, Corporate Director – Scientific Development & Innovation, as well as meet chemical engineers Michel Hamel and Patrick Ager.  After listening to an overview presentation of Cascades’ activities, the students were offered an in-depth view of security papers. The visit continued with a guided tour of the paper mill, followed by a picnic lunch on the grounds – where their lunches were kept cool by Cascades’ innovative ThermaFresh coolers!

Students were elated with their experience, and several have already made contact to pursue future collaborations, such as internships.  “I am very much inspired by the Cascades business strategy relying upon research and innovation for sustainable development. I am moved by the company’s green policy and aim of not to compromise with the products quality in the present cost based market conditions,” said Globalink student Anupam Yadav, hosted this summer at McGill University.

Clearly, innovation at Cascades has made an impression on these bright students, and will be an added incentive for these students to return to Canada to pursue graduate studies and careers in research and development.

Thank you to Cascades’ team for making this day memorable for these visiting students!
