Canadian Mathematical Society announces Mitacs Innovation Lecture series

Ottawa, ON – The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) and Mitacs are pleased to announce the establishment of the Mitacs Innovation Lecture series. Starting in December 2020 in conjunction with the CMS 2020 Winter Meeting in Montreal, Quebec, the Mitacs Innovation Lectures will illuminate the mathematical underpinnings of significant innovative developments that impact our world.

The name recognizes and celebrates the significant effect that Mitacs, a national organization established by Canada’s mathematicians, has had on innovation across the country since 1999. Intended to be of broad, public interest, the lectures will be particularly engaging to mathematical scientists. A special committee will select the speakers.

Dr. Mark Lewis, President of the Canadian Mathematical Society, stated that, “We are delighted to work with Mitacs to showcase the amazing ways that mathematics contributes to today’s world. We are very grateful for the support Mitacs is providing for this important endeavour.”

“In celebration of our 20th anniversary, Mitacs is proud to partner with the Canadian Mathematical Society to launch the Mitacs Innovation Lectures,” recognized Dr. Alejandro Adem, CEO and Scientific Director of Mitacs. “The lectures recognizes Mitacs’s origin of bringing together researchers in the mathematical sciences to develop solutions to problems that affect industry, and more broadly, to solve challenges that face society today.”
