Vancouver, BC — Mitacs is excited to announce the advancement of several key partnerships in Southeast Asia after a successful mission to the region. The efforts aim at enhancing international research collaboration and innovation.
In the Philippines, Mitacs engaged in advanced discussions with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to foster strategic initiatives that benefit both Canada and the Philippines.
Mitacs is also exploring innovation opportunities with DOST, which will focus on quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, and disaster relief.
On a visit to Thailand, Mitacs signed a landmark memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT) to enhance international research collaboration between Canadian and Thai institutions. This first-of-its-kind agreement links Canadian post-secondary institutions with Thai universities nationwide.
The initiative includes plans for a co-funding arrangement to support the Globalink Research Internship program and quantum initiatives. CUPT will now identify funding mechanisms to begin collaborations by 2026.
In Singapore, the visit focused on expanding relationships between Singaporean and Canadian institutions with an emphasis on quantum innovation and research collaboration.
These visits and the resulting agreements would not have been possible without the support of the Embassy of Canada to the Philippines, Trade Commissioner Service in Manila, Embassy of Canada to Thailand, Trade Commissioner Service in Bangkok, High Commission of Canada to Singapore, and Trade Commissioner Service in Singapore.
