Mitacs professor wins two Grammys

Vancouver, BC – McGill Associate Professor Richard King was the recent recipient of two Grammys at the 57^th Annual Grammy Awards. King’s work was recognized in two categories: Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, for Bass & Mandolin, and Best Engineered Album, Classical, for Adams, John: City Noir.

King is currently collaborating with a Mitacs Accelerate intern on a project entitled, “Automatic Mixing Through Machine Learning” with Montreal-based audio production company MixGenius.  Automatic mixing is a field of music technology that looks to automate sound engineering processes. Prior to this project, King supervised two other Mitacs internships.

• Mitacs’ Accelerate program connects graduate students with industry partners for research internships supervised by faculty. In 2013–2014, Mitacs supported 2,240 Accelerate internships.
• Interns spend approximately half of the time on-site with the industry partner; the remainder is spent at the university advancing the research under the guidance of a faculty supervisor.
