Mitacs congratulates the Government of Canada on the launch of its international education strategy

Mitacs applauds the Government of Canada and the Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, for launching Canada’s International Education Strategy: Harnessing our knowledge advantage to drive innovation and prosperity.

Unveiled at an event today at Ryerson University’s Digital Media Zone, the strategy is designed to maintain and enhance Canada’s global position in higher education. Not only will the strategy attract more international students to Canada but it will provide opportunities for Canadian students to internationalize their education through study or work experience abroad.

During his remarks, Minister Fast highlighted a $13 million investment in Mitacs Globalink as announced in the 2013 Economic Action Plan. This new funding is enabling Mitacs to launch new initiatives to provide research and training opportunities for Canadian students in Brazil, China, India, Mexico, Turkey and Vietnam. In addition, it will also enhance the Mitacs Globalink undergraduate internship program which has brought over 800 top international students to Canada for summer research projects since 2009.

“We are very supportive of the Government’s International Education Strategy,” said Eric Bosco, Mitacs Chief Business Development and Partnerships Officer, who spoke at today’s event. “A comprehensive, national strategy that brings together Canada’s universities, governments, companies and the education sector as well as institutions abroad will help Canada to build its reputation abroad and enhance our economy.”
