MITACS MITACS Centres
MITACS Centres

A MITACS Centre is a focal point for international quantitative research activity in areas of strategic importance to Canada and the world. It is a natural evolution of a national research project intended to maintain a critical mass of Canadian expertise.

Centre for Applied Mathematics in Bioscience and Medicine (CAMBAM)
- Director: Prof. Michael Mackey

The past decade has witnessed a renaissance in the biological sciences with a new and almost insatiable desire for interdisciplinary research with the physical and mathematical sciences. The life sciences have been propelled into the quantitative era, and there is now a demand in academia, government, and industry for people who speak the languages of the mathematical, physical, and biological sciences. CAMBAM is precisely aimed at satisfying this demand by providing the knowledge base to deal with this interdisciplinary need based on our unique talents and experience as some of the pioneers in the establishment of mathematical biology and biophysics. We are dedicated to translating our experience and knowledge into practical solutions for practical problems of societal and industrial importance.

Centre for Disease Modelling
- Chair: Jianhong Wu, York University

MITACS Centre for Disease Modelling (CDM) builds on the success of a MITACS research team focused on the project entitled "Transmission Dynamics and Spatial Spread of Infectious Diseases: Modeling, Prediction and Control". Its mission is to work with other Canadian institutions and international organizations to build the Canadian capacity for interdisciplinary research on disease modeling using cutting-edge mathematical and statistical techniques.
