Overview
A MITACS International Focus Period consists of a series of scientific activities over a period of approximately one year. These events are all centered on a common theme that addresses key socio-economic issues of high provincial and federal priority. A Focus Period deals with topics that are grounded in the mathematical sciences, but require a truly multidisciplinary approach.

Application and Selection Process
Whenever possible, topics for the Focus Period are determined at least two years in advance. MITACS works closely with applicants throughout the application process, which involves two stages: a letter of intent and invited full proposals. Final funding decisions are made by the MITACS Board of Directors on the recommendation of the MITACS Research Management Committee (RMC). The RMC will solicit external review of proposals as appropriate.
