Project Description:

DDS has aggregated data from more than 150 cities and tens of millions of taxi (and other) trips over decades.  Using historical and realtime anonymized data, answer questions pertaining to the transportation industry and social insights which are revealed by this data.  Present this data in visually or descriptively compelling ways to help our company add to the conversation around how personal transportation is shaped into the 21st century.

Background and required skills

Research Objectives/Sub-Objectives:

  • Reveal compelling details about progressions in personal transportation as contained within DDS’ massive set of historical trip data

Methodology:

  • Develop hypotheses for data analysis and representations
  • Harvest large historical / realtime data and develop queries and analysis tools
  • Develop compelling representations of the results

Expertise and Skills Needed:

  • Internship #1: Computing Science (Accessing large databases, managing data, producing queries, publishing results online)
  • Internship #2: Social Science Research Methods / Data Analysis
