Project Description:

A post-doctoral position is available at Myant Inc & Neural Systems & Brain Signal Processing Lab (affiliated with The Krembil Research Institute and University of Toronto).

The Krembil Research Institute is associated with the Toronto Western Hospital and is one of the largest research institutes in Canada focusing on human neurological diseases from a basic science and clinical research perspective. The University Health Network, Canada’s largest academic hospital network has a strong interdisciplinary research program in vision, spinal cord, regenerative neuroscience and arthritis.

The Neural Systems & Brain Signal Processing Lab (PI: Dr. Milad Lankarany) focuses on the development of computational models and techniques to infer bio-information (e.g., information processing mechanisms of the neural systems) from sparse observations (e.g., electrophysiological recordings).

The main goal of this collaboration between Myant Inc and Neural Systems & Brain Signal Processing Lab is to develop algorithms and technology for extracting bio-information from the body, e.g., EMG, ECG and EEG, and integrate the inferred information with the human behavioral status, e.g., stress, anxiety, sleep apnea, etc. Our ultimate objective is to develop neuro-technology to optimally control human behaviors, particularly those related to the neurological disorders.

Research Objectives:

The main goal of this collaboration between Myant Inc and Neural Systems & Brain Signal Processing Lab is to develop algorithms and technology for extracting bio-information from the body, e.g., EMG, ECG and EEG, and integrate the inferred information with the human behavioral status, e.g., stress, anxiety, sleep apnea, etc. Our ultimate objective is to develop neuro-technology to optimally control human behaviors, particularly those related to the neurological disorders.

Methodology:

  • Conceive, design, simulate, verify and integrate electronic circuits for biomedical applications (sensing bio-signals and actuating the body)
  • Leverage appropriate software, tools, and applications to solve biomedical problems
  • Write and utilize scripts/programs for data acquisition and analysis (e.g., R / Python / MATLAB)
  • Participate and contribute to methodological research including but not limited to the development of biomedical circuits and systems
  • Work independently to meet deadlines
  • Train with leading computational and electro-physiological scientists

Expertise and Skills Needed:

    The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Electrical/Biomedical Engineering with a strong experience in electronics. As well, strong quantitative background (ideally in the field of Applied Mathematic/Signal Processing/Machine Learning) is a plus.

    Specific requirements:

    • Ph.D. in Electrical/Biomedical Engineering
    • Experience with biomedical circuits and systems
    • Experience with analyzing electrophysiological data, e.g., ECG, EMG and EEG.
    • Experience with Microcontrollers
    • Knowledge in Machine Learning and Signal Processing
    • Knowledge of Wearable Technology
    • Experience with Programming languages, e.g., R/ MATLAB/ Python
